About

The Academy of Arts and Sciences will be one of California’s top-performing public charter schools, and a unique learning community offering a 21st century curriculum. The International Baccalaureate programme affords students rigor filled academic experience, through the rich lens of the arts and sciences in all their forms. The ability to think critically, analyze, evaluate, reflect and continuously improve are essential skills students need to succeed today.  A rigorous curriculum, relevant activities and building positive relationships, lie at the very heart of our learning model.

The strength and vitality of our School is the diversity of cultural backgrounds, talents, life experiences, and personalities of our students and faculty. One quarter of our students and their families are all American citizens, while an almost equal number are all non-US citizens; the remaining families are composed of members with more than one citizenship.

The multicultural educational experience is coupled with an emphasis on second-language acquisition, beginning with Spanish language immersion for our Kindergarten students and continuing with students in Grades 1-5; language options for older students vary based on ability and previous experience.

Students thrive in this lively mix of cultures, traditions, and ideas. We encourage them to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them in academics, and also in athletics, community service and other extracurricular activities. By mastering challenges both in and beyond the classroom, our students will acquire the skills and experience to succeed on every level, and they form friendships that will last for years.

In addition to their academic studies in mathematics, science, language, literature, social sciences and the arts, students learn how to be engaged global citizens. An active sports schedule, community service in the community and around the world, and travel programs for study and for fun will take our students out into the world, while on campus they will be involved in theater and music, art, journalism, debate and many other activities.

Students will gain the skills, courage and competence to compete and lead in the 21st century and understand the value of independence and teamwork.
