Overview

Curriculum Structure:

Courses are structured around objectives, content, and         assessments and follow an objective based     learning     structure, which     are     clearly     identi        fied     at     the beginning of the course.

Built on educational research to identify the “Big Ideas” of a subject area as well as the concepts that are stumbling blocks for many students.

Easy-to-navigate
online content, including summaries and reviews, with more time and effort spent on the hardest, most important topics and skills.

Engaging interactive content to illustrate and explain difficult concepts to students with different learning styles.

Directed online learning will be supplemented and enhanced with off-line activities and assignments, charter school instructional staff/student discussion boards, project-based learning assignments and opportunities for collaborative projects.

The Academy of Arts and Sciences provides students with the supplemental materials needed to complete the core courses independently. Students without home computer access can access the curriculum at any one of the AAS site locations.


General Electives:

The Academy of Arts and Sciences will be offering on-site electives in the Field of Arts & Sciences based on student interest at each site. Additional online electives are available for high school students. Students can also submit a plan for a Creative Elective that allows them to craft a course that pertains to their personal interests.


World Languages:

Students in grades 6-12 can chooses 5 languages offered by Middlebury Interactive Languages: German, Latin, Chinese, Spanish or French

Middlebury Languages is a recognized international leader in language pedagogy with over 100 years of academic excellence and research-based, proven language learning methodology. Middlebury is aligned to ACTFL Standards & Common Core Standards and uses Articulated Sequence of Instruction, where each level building on the previous course.
