Parents play a vital role in Independent Study Programs.
To aid in the success of the students parents will need to:
- Ensure continuous progress of your students
- Participate in regularly scheduled parent-teacher calls
- Check e-mail daily
- Check that activity logs are completed weekly
- Submit student work samples and signed activity logs every 20 school days
K-8
In the K-8 program, you as the parent, working with an
experienced teacher, serve as a “learning coach” for your student.
A suggested lesson plan is provided to you each week and
updates automatically as your child progresses. You can vary the lesson plan to
accommodate your child’s pace or abilities. The system will automatically adjust so you don’t miss any
lessons.
Parents of children in grades K-5 can expect to spend 3-4
hours per day supporting their child’s education
In grades 6-8, learning coach time typically decreases to
2-3 hours per day as your child becomes more independent
You can expect that your child will spend 4-5 hours per day
on coursework and homework in grades K-5 and 5-6 hours in grades 6-8
9-12
In the 9-12 program, you as the parent should be checking in
that your student is completing work on a daily basis.
Students in grades 9-12 should be working a minimum approximately
an hour per course a day.
